Etta James passed away on Jan. 20, 2012, at the age of 73.  She leaves behind a long musical heritage and influence, which can be heard through younger Kansas City bands like Trampled Under Foot.

Etta James was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1993, the Blues Hall of Fame in 2001, and the Grammy Hall of Fame in both 1999 and 2008. Rolling Stone ranked James number 22 on their list of the 100 Greatest Singers of All Time

“It’s always sorrow when you lose somebody that musically you’ve been hanging out with for 50 years,” said Lindsay Shannon, the owner of BB’s Lawnside BBQ and host of “The KC Blues Show” on KCFX-FM.
